In the face of unprecedented challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, visionary founders David and Jean Melvin Angeron - parents of three college students at prestigious universities across the United States - recognized a critical gap in higher education that demanded immediate attention. Their personal experiences revealed a stark reality: despite significant investments, their children were not receiving the quality education they deserved, nor were they being adequately prepared for future career success. More alarmingly, they observed an increasing emphasis on political agendas and a concerning shift away from foundational religious values within these institutions.
Driven by an unwavering commitment to excellence in Christian education and a burning desire to address these pressing issues, David and Jean took bold, decisive action. They engaged a professional consultant group and birthed John Melvin University (JMU), a beacon of hope designed to reintroduce Christian values and academic rigor to higher education. Their mission? To revolutionize the landscape of higher learning and empower the next generation of leaders.
Founded in 2021, John Melvin University emerged as a dynamic, Christ-centered institution in the heart of Louisiana. JMU launched its first classes in the fall of 2022 with remarkable speed and efficiency, leveraging cutting-edge online technology to deliver a transformative educational experience.
In August 2024, the founders established John Melvin Christian College, a religiously exempt sister institution located in Pensacola, Florida. They are also preparing to launch John Melvin Christian University in 2025, pending licensing approval from the Florida Department of Education.
